Schuman Arzberg was originally founded in Arzberg, Bavaria, Germany by Christian Heinrich Schumann in 1881 as "Schumann & Riess".  When Mr. Heinrich passed away, his wife, Christiana Schumann lead the company and changed its name to "Carl Schumann & Co". c.1892,  after their youngest son, Carl Schumann, (born in 1871).  Carl took over the company in 1896.  There was another name change in 1923 when the company was incorporated and renamed, "Carl Schumann Porzellanfabrik AG".  And so it continued until 1926 when Carl Schumann passed away.  His son, Carl Schumann II took over the company.  Carl the second (II), who had studied in the USA in the 1920's founded the "Schumann China Corporation of New York" in 1928.  The Schumann China Corporation distributed Schumann products in the U. S. from 1928 until 1933 when it closed.  The Bavaria Germany company continued on.  In 1961 it was Carl III, who took over the company, when Carl III resigned another branch of the family ran the business.  The business was reorganized and remained a family owned business for a very long time, but was eventually sold to investors in 1990.   It finally closed in 1994.
